Frequently Asked Questions
Should I wait for symptoms to appear before getting tested?
No, you should not wait for symptoms. Many common STDs are often "silent," meaning they show no symptoms at all. However, even without symptoms, these infections can still be transmitted to partners and can lead to long-term health complications like pelvic inflammatory disease or infertility if left untreated. Regular screening is the only way to be certain of your status, especially if you have changed partners recently.
Do I need to fast before my STD test?
No fasting is required for standard STD screenings. You can eat and drink normally before your visit. However, if you are getting a urine-based test, we recommend that you do not urinate for at least one hour prior to your visit to ensure the sample is concentrated enough for an accurate reading.
If my test comes back positive, what are the next steps?
If a result is positive, our providers will contact you to discuss the diagnosis. Most bacterial STDs are easily cured with a round of antibiotics. For viral infections, we provide counseling on management and can refer you to specialists if long-term care is required.
